The 2014 Amgen Tour of California’s official start is at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 11 in downtown Sacramento in front of the Capitol. The overall route showcases the heart of California and Sacramento County with a route that travels through Discovery Park, past Sacramento International Airport, along White Rock Road and near Sloughouse. The time trial on Monday, May 12 will be hosted in Folsom, one of Sacramento County’s seven unique cities.
As one of the top races in the world, the Amgen Tour of California is also the largest cycling event in America. Now in its ninth year, 2014 promises the strongest peloton (group of racers) from top to bottom yet, featuring a roster complete with Olympians, World and National Champions, Grand Tour stage winners, and the only cyclist to win the Tour de France and Olympic gold in the same year (Team Sky’s Bradley Wiggins in 2012).
“Sacramento County is proud to welcome the Tour of California back to our capital region. We know that the riders and spectators will enjoy the views as their route takes them through some of the most beautiful areas of the County,” said Jimmie Yee, Chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.
It is free to watch the race along the course. Sacramento County’s Voter Registration office is hosting a booth at the festival in downtown Sacramento. Be sure to stop by to register to vote in the upcoming primary election.
