Who doesn’t love an unexpected windfall? Could you have an outstanding check with Sacramento County? The County has more than 5,700 uncashed checks on its books totaling more than $1.9 million. The average check total is around $335, but some are much higher. Find out if you have money owed to you on the Open Data Portal.
The Open Data Portal contains information from Utilities, Transportation, Permits, Revenue Recovery and the Finance Department. The Portal lists the names of individuals and businesses that have uncashed County of Sacramento warrants (checks) that are at least six months old. A current address is needed to process the credit balances.
Once you’re on the Open Data Portal, click "financial" under Top Categories, then click the outstanding checks line at the top; there could be a small wait while the system gathers the data. You will see the date, check number, check amount and payee. The payee names can be sorted alphabetically by first name or by date to create a smoother search.
If you find your name or business on this list, contact the Department of Finance or Revenue Recovery about your unclaimed County warrant and complete the appropriate forms referenced in the procedures.
