The Division of Public Health launched a new sexually transmitted disease (STD) campaign this month called “Don’t Think. Know.” The campaign is designed to address the high STD rate in Sacramento County, specifically focusing on Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. The “Don’t Think. Know.” campaign targets women ages 15 – 24 who do not have access to a primary care doctor.
The program allows consumers to test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in the privacy and comfort of their own home. The test kits are free and come through the mail in a non-descript mail package. The test includes a pre-paid, pre-addressed return pouch to send the test kit to the lab. Getting tested is as easy as 1-2-3;
1. Go to
www.sacramento.dontthinkknow.org, set up a user name and password, and order the free test kit. The test kit should arrive in the mail within 3-5 business days. Women who are unable to receive the kits by mail can pick one up at the project office.
2. Follow test kit instructions to properly swab a test sample. Then put test swab and tube in the pre-paid and pre-addressed envelope provided.
3. Consumers will receive an email when their test results are ready. To access the confidential test results login using the username and password.
This new program along with the addition of an STD expert to the Division of Public Health is the first step in reducing the STD rate in Sacramento County. By providing consumers with the convenience and privacy of a home test kit, more people will likely get tested and seek treatment if necessary. For more information, visit the “
