This year’s Eppie’s Great Race is scheduled for Saturday, July 16. Known as “The World’s Oldest Triathlon,” the 43rd annual race raises funds to benefit Sacramento County’s Regional Parks Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) program, which provides recreational activities that promote fun, friendship, independence and personal growth for people with disabilities.
The race begins at the William Pond Recreation Area with a 5.82 mile run, followed by cycling for 12.5 miles and paddling for 6.10 miles on a racecourse located on and alongside the
American River Parkway. Teams and/or individuals 14 years and older can compete in divisions ranging from “Junior” to “Iron Person.”
If a triathlon isn't your thing, but you'd like to be a part of the Great Race, you can still participate by volunteering. Each year, more than 800 volunteers have helped make this local event successful and fun. Volunteers can
register online for a variety of jobs, including preparing Swag Bag race packets, recording race results and more.
Funds from Eppie’s Great Race are a vital source of support for TRS programs. Programs focus on abilities while encouraging people to attain their highest level of independent leisure functioning by increasing leisure skills, improving social skills, increasing independence and increasing their awareness of and involvement in community recreational activities. Activities include sports training, day trips, outdoor adventures, classes, resident camps and more.
