The Sacramento County portal website has launched with Responsive Design. Because more people will access their internet from smartphones than from desktops by 2015, the County has completely redesigned their portal to function on smartphones as well as large desktop screens, and tablets. The web design flows seamlessly from large to small screen, something few counties have taken on- and the navigation is easy and citizen-centric.
“Mobile access is the future of online communications,” said County Executive Officer Bradley J Hudson. “We’ve designed a responsive portal to make online services and information tailored to handheld devices as well as widescreen monitors.”
“With only labor hours as cost, the Sacramento County portal responsive design cost significantly less than if it were done by a Web design firm,” said Rami Zakaria, Chief Information Officer for Sacramento County. “We should have most of the County department websites converted to the new look and feel by end of summer.”
Costs for the new design were extremely low because it was planned, created, built and tested by County employees and in-house contracted staff members. To keep costs low going forward, County staff members will update and maintain the site.
