For the first time in 30 years, Sacramento County is undergoing a major update to its zoning code. Halted in 2008, the latest update was restarted in 2012. Through the update, the Community Development Department seeks to achieve several goals; streamline the entitlement process; make the code more business and user friendly; encourage mixed-use development; offer increased options for parking areas; integrate the code with community corridor plans and special planning areas; and promote sustainable development practices from the County General Plan.
Community Development recently posted the draft Zoning Code on its website for public review, and has been presenting the plan to Community Planning Advisory Councils and the Planning Commission over the past few months. Over the summer of 2014, Community Development staff will present the plan in public hearings to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
