      Barking is a natural behavior for dogs - they bark to express joy, fear and loneliness. At times, chronic dog barking, howling or crying can interfere with neighbors. It is the responsibility of the dog owner to ensure their dog does not annoy the neighbors, and chronic barking issues can result in the issuance of a citation by Animal Control ​Officers.       If the animal bite is severe enough, seek medical attention immediately and call 916-368-PETS (7387) to report the bite. Medical professionals are required by law to report dog bites to the Department of Animal Care.

      If no medical attention is required, call 368-7387 (PETS) to report the bite. By law, animal bites must be investigated. Bite investigation does not automatically mean the animal is impounded - it may only mean that vaccination and licenses are verified. This helps us protect public health and safety.       Sacramento County​ hauls away hundreds of tons of junk and rubbish illegally dumped in the public right-of-way every year. From construction debris to refrigerators, this trash blights our neighborhoods, pollutes our rivers and streams, drives down property values, and costs County tax and rate payers hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

      The County is dedicated to combating and reducing illegal dumping. We post signs at chronic illegal dumping sites, erect barriers at frequently abused alleys, and ​have a Code Enforcement Officer assigned to the program.​​

      SACDOT’s Roadside Maintenance Program repairs and maintains miles of unpaved roadside shoulders, gravel roads, open ditches, fences/sound walls, steel guardrails, and walls. These maintenance activities allow: storm water to readily exit the roadway; eliminate obstructions and restore ditches to their proper shape; support the road structure and limit drop-offs from the edge of the pavement; and, maintain safety and retaining structures in an as-built condition.
